25th Anniversary - Tributes in Song

Both Faith Petric and Herdman Hills Mangsen suprised us with songs rewritten for the occassion of our 25th Anniversary. Faith performed her rewrite of the gospel hymn Precious Memories at our special Thursday night benefit concert. Priscilla Herdman, Anne Hills and Cindy Mangsen sang Anne's new lyrics to Mr. Sandman ("Mr. Soundman") as the opening number of their main stage concert set on Saturday night of the festival.

Old Songs extends a big thank you to these fabulous folk femmes!

Precious Memories

Words: Faith Petric
Tune: Precious Memories, trad. Gospel

Precious memories of the Old Songs
Stories lovingly retold.
Joyous singing all together,
Dancing 'til the nights were old.

Chorus:
Precious memories, how they linger,
How the happy years unfold.
In our hearts, forever treasured,
Precious memories we hold.

Every year the families gather
And we've watched the children grow.
Happy greetings, old friends meeting,
As the precious memories flow.

Many times the sun was shining,
Many times it really rained.
Artists came with inspirations;
Thoughts to take down memory lane.

Twenty-five is quite a number;
It's not easy to attain.
But it's been a good beginning.
So let's do it all again!

Mister Soundman

Words: Anne Hills
Tune: Mister Sandman

1-2-3, 1-2-3, 1-2-3, 1-2-3 - check

Mr. Soundman, please if you could,
Play with the mixer and make us sound good.
We've done our practice and warmed up our voices.
We're through obsessing over our song choices.

Mr. Soundman, Priscilla's right here.
That's Anne, that's Cindy, now we've got that clear.
Once you've found us all don't fuss;
Leave the song dynamics to us!

Mr. Soundman, this year the stage
And show directions are missing a page.
We asked for extra; Old Songs can afford it -
We wanted laser lights but they ignored it.

Mr. Soundman, not just by chance,
We're up here singing, we weren't asked to dance.
It's so hard to keep the beat
When you're dancing with six left feet.

1-2-3, 1-2-3, 1-2-3, 1-2-3 - kick

Mr. Soundman, the time'll go fast,
As we remember the festivals past
And all the music that brought us together,
In mud or rain or dust or sunny weather.

Mr. Soundman, just one more thing
We'd like to mention as we start to sing:
To Andy, Bill and volunteers,

Congratulations on twenty-five years!
